Nils Fredland - bass Rachel Gordon - alto Brendan - tenor, guitar
brendan - fiddle, guitar colin farrell - fiddle Two jigs with my friend and classmate, Colin Farrell, a Mancunian of high renown. I don't know where I got the first jig, but the second is a composition of Séan Ryan, the great Tipperary fiddler.
brendan - guitars síle denvir - harp jim higgins - bodhrán A great jig and a child's dandling song from Connemara, set here in mellow fashion on guitar and harp with Jim on the drum.
brendan - fiddle, guitar matt bashford - pipes The first reel I learned from an old lp of Séan Ryan and P.J. Moloney, an absolute gem of an album, and the second is an overly common session tune, my interest reawakened after a master class with Martin Hayes. Matt Bashford is a fine piper from Limerick City.
brendan - fiddles ciarán leahy - guitar
brendan - vocals, guitar brian perkins - mandolin, feet A great song from Lui Collins. I changed it a little --er, well, I changed it a lot, but Lui still likes it.
brendan - fiddle brad hurley - Bb flute An old set dance from the repertoire of Junior Crehan, who learned it from traveling dance master Pat Barron in the mid '30s.
brendan - vocals, guitar pete sutherland - fiddle One of my own, imagining what happened to families whose homes were flooded out when the dams were made.
East Pond lies in New Hampshire's White Mountains, and a '05 Village Harmony session stood on its shore and sang one of the songs I had taught them. I wanted to remember that moment, and had been wanting to create a version of Amazing Grace without that whole business of being a wretch and thus "East Pond" was born.
